Classy Sarah Palin

I was sent a link to an old background article about Sarah Palin and found a few gems in the interview, which took place in 2005. This post is about one of them.

Q: I noticed there was a new business license acquired in the Mat-Su under your name.

A: Rouge Cou, it's a classy way of saying redneck. It's a French word, rouge is red, cou is neck. It's for marketing and consulting, in case I wanted to go that route, I'd have my ducks all lined up and have a business license. I just was granted that business license.

Q: You're not actively pursuing a business, it's setting aside the rights, the name, rather?

A: It was to, again, get my ducks lined up, because I would like to, with some of the endeavors that I have going on right now, there comes a time when one desires to be paid for them!

Word salad apart, what comes across is how classy our Sarah really is. In French we would have another word for it...

  4. Dianne,

The word "connasse" in French goes from very very very rude to "stupid cow". These days it has lost some of the rudeness and it's used more as stupid cow. It all depends on the tone of voice...

  7. Sarah, Sarah; it's cou rouge. Slept through French class in high school, did we? Although one would think she'd at least have heard of Moulin rouge, or Baton Rouge, and had a few second thoughts about her word order.

Quick; what's the French for idiot?

  8. Am I wrong, or doesn't she have the words out of order? Shouldn't the noun precede the adjective?

  9. Ah, I now see someone already pointed this out.

  10. Reg - Love it! Stupid cow. Perfect. I think I'll start referring to her as SC.

  12. Basheert,
    This appeared on HuffPo:

    From the Robert Draper piece:

[A]n elegant ... woman sat alone at the far end of the bar ... Her name was Priscilla Shanks, a New York-based stage and screen actress ... who had found a lucrative second career as a voice coach. Shanks's work with Sarah Palin was as evident as it was unseen. Gone, by the evening of her convention speech, was the squeaky register of Palin's exclamations. Gone (at least for the moment) was the Bushian pronunciation of "nuclear" as "nook-you-ler." Present for the first time was a leisurely, even playful cadence that signaled Sarah Palin's inevitability on this grand stage.

Shanks' name does appear in McCain's campaign finance report.

It's reported as: "Operating Expenditures / GOTV CONSULTING."

As in "Get Out the Vote."

  13. Shanks obviously didn't work long enough with Palin.

All I heard in any of her speeches was an ear-piercing shrillness in a register nearly high enough to make dogs bark.

  14. lol..I am glad I read your response re: the voice coach Reg. I have been noticing when the "stupid cow" speaks now...she definitely has a squeak. Her voice is like drawing nails on a chalkboard.

I dont think I mentioned it before...but I love your blog and your tenacity.

  17. Rouge Cou Palin! Sounds rather like an exotic dancer.

I think when I get tired of calling her Bad Sarah, it's just going to be Rouge Cou from now on. Although just plain "Cou-Cou" is really more apt.

When the Saracites, Palinbots and Palinistas say Bad Sarah has courage, we'll all know what they really mean instead - she has Cou Rouge!

Sorry I'm just having too much fun with this. I've brought the good French table wine, here's a glass for all to toast this little tidbit. I've got to say, I hope her business license is still good, as she'll need to be opening her "classy" Cou Rouge shop in just 550 days.
