Quotes - Lying
It's Saturday, things are slow. Time for some quotes!
He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual. ~ Thomas Jefferson
People never lie so much as after a hunt, during a war or before an election. ~ Otto von Bismarck
It is the responsibility of intellectuals to speak the truth and expose lies. ~ Noam Chomsky
He who is not sure of his memory should not undertake the trade of lying. ~ Montaigne
"It is better to be defeated on principle than to win on lies." ~ Arthur Calwell
"Truth may be stretched, but cannot be broken, and always gets above falsehood, as does oil above water." ~ Miguel de Cervantes
"A half-truth is a whole lie." ~ Jewish proverb
Always tell the truth. That way, you don't have to remember what you said. ~ Mark Twain
The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive and unrealistic. ~ John F. Kennedy
If you once forfeit the confidence of your fellow citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem. It is true that you may fool all of the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all of the time; but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. ~ Abraham Lincoln

ReplyDeleteI love lyin' ... 'cause I can do it real cool-like. Ya betcha?
And the American people for which we are grateful that they have let us lie unchallenged forever we are grateful to them for letting us do what we do 'cause we do it for the goodness of the American people and watchin' for Russians to protect this great land and it's all about jobs.
Read that LONG comment - what WAS that person on? I couldn't even finish the whole thing...Whew.

ReplyDeleteHe had me until it commented about Michelle Obama's $400 Lobster dinner that was debunked during the campaign.
All in all one of the strangest rants I've ever (attempted) to read online.
Here is a Palin quote that, as usual, makes you go "huh"? I had never seen this report on her pregnancy announcement before.

From the above-linked article, Palin says: It certainly makes me very much more so committed to even wanting to stay in Alaska, you know wanting to raise kids in Alaska... "Unless, ya know, I get nominated for President, or maybe just Vice President, whatever ya got, and then I can go campaigning-- so long suckers!" *wink*
ReplyDelete"And you say I was lying? That's not me, that's the goshdurn liberal media! Those elitists slandered me by quotin' what I said! They aren't real pro-American, ya betcha."
The long ranter does not offer any solutions. The state of the economy brings out the fear in people. It is true the very richest people have made America totally off balance. It seems to me Obama recognizes this and is doing his best to turn it around. He even wanted to cap CEO pay.
ReplyDeleteEisenhower had a tax rate of 91% after earning a certain amount, and the wealthy remained wealthy. Myself I don't know what the answer is. Just pray Obama really does have good advisers to help us out of this mess.
Regina, you probably already know this but just in case here are a couple of little talked about ethics complaints. In Oct. 08, Citizensforethics.com CREW files a complaint against Gov. Palin and RNC for improperly spending $150,000 on clothing for Sarah Palin and her family in violation of the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA). Sept. 3, 08 John Cyr of Public Safety Employees filed an ethics complaint for illegal release of records of Officer Wooten.
What everyone fails to mention about Andree McCloud is that SP used to admire her. Just another person she has endeared after they get to know her.
