Sarah Palin, governor, journalist...
"Being a voracious reader, I read a lot today and have read a lot growing up. And having that journalism degree, all of that, will be a great assistance for me in writing this book, talking about the challenges and the joys, balancing the work and parenting, and, in my case, work means running the state." (Fox News)
Sarah Palin wrote an op-ed explaining her reasons for rejecting nearly $30 million in stimulus money for energy projects. I'm going to comment on some passages:
The feds required me to certify these codes "will be implemented" or pushed on local communities... But conditions here required more "big brother" government involvement.
These are the words of a state governor and journalist. Unprofessional and disrespectful in either capacity.
Alaskans have a strong history of independence and opposition to Washington, D.C., meddling in local issues.
A journalist would know that one doesn't separate the subject from the verb by placing a comma between them. Sarah Palin sounds like a mouthpiece for the AIP.
I've served as a city councilman and city mayor/manager.
No, she hired a manager to run the city.
My community went through a battle over building codes when our booming city desired more growth opportunities to allow job creation.
Sarah Palin as mayor went through battle over building codes when her house was built by Todd and his buddies at the same time as the sports complex.
The last thing we needed was a bureaucrat from Washington, D.C., telling us what the best policy was to adopt.
Subject, comma, verb is a no-no. Word salad. AIP?
I asked the feds to clarify their position.
More disrespect from the governor.
Beware of Washington, D.C., trying to cajole local community leaders to eliminate the choices Alaskans have when building or renovating homes and businesses.
Word salad. AIP.
The governor uses Washington D.C. and feds as interchangeable terms in a very derogatory tone throughtout her piece. The journalist separates the subject from the verb at least three times, not to mention the usual word salad.
I haven't discussed the contents of her op-ed because we know very well that there are no strings attached to the money for energy projects.
The tone and the language used by the journalist/governor proves that she's not qualified for either position.
Sarah Palin's unprofessional and misguided op-eds, speeches, press releases and twits together with inappropriate choice of clothing on various occasions lead me to the conclusion that she would be more successful in a very different occupation.
.
Maybe she thought she was "stringiin' tweets" together?
ReplyDeleteOMG! Ennelogic pointed out on Gryphens thread this little essay will follow her if she dares to try for 2012, and I tend to agree.
What a small minded self serving twit she is!
I can't understand why she isn't being recalled or impeached?
People speculate as to whether or not Meg or another spokesperson writes her material, or whether Sarah writes it herself. Well, there can be no doubt as the the author of this eloquent piece. She is always at her best when trying to defend herself against the slings and arrows. We can't wait for the book!
ReplyDeleteCan anyone, anywhere, cite anything GINO says she has read apart from C.S. Lewis and the gorier parts of the New Testament? And that mention of Lewis came recently, well after the 2008 campaign ended, after she'd been poked and prodded on this subject a zillion times. Her family is quoted by biographers, calling SP "a voracious reader," without giving specifics, even the "Sweet Valley High" series, or perhaps a Nancy Drew.
ReplyDeleteThe only reading material with which I've ever seen her photographed was that John Birch Society newsletter. When George W. Bush finally got around to providing a staff-compiled list of things he allegedly was "reading," avid readers guffawed with disbelief (if nothing else, the total number of pages seemed daunting even for a passionate reader and policy wonk), and then the matter was dropped for good.
People who read a lot tend to spill over with enthusiasm about what they read. (My husband's polite-but-loving glaze of boredom matches mine when he talks about sports.) If people read a lot, one can tell. They quote effusively, even if not completely accurately. They talk about what they can hardly bear to drag themselves away from. They are photographed on airplanes with their fingers serving as a bookmark when someone talks to them. They have books poking out of their briefcases, tote bags, and luggage, and leave nests of messily refolded newspapers behind them--at least people in politics and/or journalism do!
This constant reminder by SP that she's a (*koff*koff*) voracious reader has been wearing on us for ages. Why doesn't she stop? Only hardcore Palinbots believe it, and they don't need to be convinced!
When George Bush bragged that one summer he had read "three Shakespeares" my husband roared with laughter. His theory is that if George Bush read only a few books, it would have influenced that way he spoke. There is no mistaking the fact that George Bush was no reader. The same can be said of Sarah Palin. If she even just read newspapers and magazines (as Katie Couric famously asked), she would sound a little more literate and less "folksy."
ReplyDeleteYes, AIP. That was actually what I thought when I read her statement. She is a RINO, a republican in name only.
ReplyDeleteThe thought of SP writing ANYTHING other than a hold-up note during a robbery is crazy.
ReplyDeleteShe probably can't even read.
SP reading?
ReplyDeleteThis is a joke right????
She and Boobs4Jesus are a matched set. But Boobs4Jesus came in higher in her pageant that LoserPalin did.
Since Boobs4Jesus can barely speak much less form a coherent sentence, I assume that SP hires people to both read and sign for her.
She obviously has a very very low I.Q.
Regarding the "hold-up note in a robbery" reminds me of Woody Allen in "Take the Money and Run," in which he offers his partner's note to the bank teller, and it reads, "I have a gub."
ReplyDeleteCorrection - I think Mayor Stein hired a manager as well (Mayor of Wasilla before Palin) so its not like Palin hired the first one, nor the last one for that matter
ReplyDeleteAnd she thinks speaking disrespectfully of the federal government is the best way to achieve national office?
