Sarah Palin breaks with tradition. Well, nearly...

From Sarah Palin's twitter:

At Juneteenth book dedication ceremony @ Anchorage's Loussac Library. Happy to attend event celebrating freedom for ALL.

Wow, Sarah Palin broke with tradition and actually attended a Juneteenth event! She may have misinterpreted the meaning of the holiday, though. In the twit, she emphasized the word ALL.

From Juneteenth.com:

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.

Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement.

Why couldn't she say she was happy to attend and event celebrating freedom for African Americans? As far as I know, no other ethnic group was enslaved in America.

Why did she have to put that little twist at the end of her twit?

  1. "Why did she have to put that little twist at the end of her twit?" ...

Because there is no use being Sarah Palin if you can't act like her.

She is a repulsive, vacuous, lying, racist B**ch and I will be so happy when she is no longer a threat to our country. My God, when is the iceberg coming?

Sorry, Reg ... she just has a way of bringing out the pedestrian in me.

    I wish you a lovely Sunday ...

  2. Why, because, (drum roll now) she is a twit.

  3. I think she is weakening in her ability to be of threat to our country and to the world. But, the ICEBURG needs to come so she is completely eliminated. She is as dangerous and ignorant as the last 8 years have been and good ridance to all. She must be completely made transparant or, in her words, "transparant" and gone. Bye, bye. Ta, ta. Don't let the door hit you in the a$$.

  4. May the iceberg come soon. And may it be a sharp iceberg that crashes the Palin "empire" into a million pieces. I despise her more than words can even say. She is a disgrace. A disgrace to women, to mothers, to our state and country.

  5. Just a point of information here: Back in the day when Alaska was still a territory owned by Russia, Russian seal and sea otter hunters enslaved the First People they encountered, and forced them to hunt for them.

From "Russian Refuge" by Susan Wiley Hardwick:

"Russian hunters were never comfortable with sea life, since their origin in continental Siberia provided no experience with maritime work. Thus, Russian successes in hunting fur-bearing animals that inhabited ocean waters near islands and coastlines depended entirely on native labor. Consequently, the Aleuts and other indigenous people of the region were virtually enslaved by the Russians. After 1799, all males over the age of eighteen and under fifty had to work for the Russian-American Company. At least 80% of the Aleut population was lost during the first and second generation of Russian conquest."There's more at this Google search result site:

  6. Thanks KaJo,

But was SP referring to them when she said ALL?

My point was that she couldn't bring herself to be happy about an African American celebration...

It's really sad to learn what human beings can do to each other.

  7. Exactly, Reg. GINO couldn't make that statement without softening it with a qualifier.

  9. OT maybe but, I think SP has been suspiciously quiet. I believe somone had gotten to her and told her to STFU or this pending breaking news about her has silenced her.

  10. regina asked, "But was SP referring to them when she said ALL? My point was that she couldn't bring herself to be happy about an African American celebration..."I did understand what you were trying to say, Regina. Aside from my little historical dissertation, I'd answer your possibly-not-rhetorical question by saying she's probably hoping a bunch of her "Cou Rouge" show up ("ALL") and make it THEIR party.

You know, shuttle the African-Americans off the stage and have Hank Williams Jr. up there as her personal guest, or Lee Greenwood...white guys, Christian conservatives, rednecks.

From what I've seen of her since last September and what I've read of her, I'd be the most surprised person on these blogs if she embraced an African-American who isn't Rev. Muthee, or even looked one in the eye without a sneer (she even had one on her face when she hugged McCain).

  11. Having to attend must have galled her to the max. She wouldn't have done it at all if not for the fact of the Juneteenth law suit.

The real question is - did she really attend - or just twit about it. Bet if she went, she didn't stay long.

Many thanks to you Regina for your wonderful posts! Happy weekend.

  12. Wow, that emphasis was a slap in the face to african americans...no doubt about it. It's very congruent with the comments she made following the Juneteenth declaration she failed to make, that she is now being sued for. Palin really and truly is a mean-girl, bully and user who believes she can get away with anything. That's not toughness, that's not the quality admired in strong leaders of either gender! She is a petty and vindictive bullshi**er. I feel very sorry for those women who admire her so much.

There is no doubt..she really is a disgrace to intelligent and hard working women everywhere. I hope I'm in the front row applauding the loudest when the SS Palin hits that iceberg!! Regina, thanks for all your hard work and great stories.

  13. Without knowing Sarah's history of Juneteenth, the ALL might not mean as much, but it is definitely a slap, and racist as the whole point of the Juneteenth celebration is to commemorate the freedom of SLAVES, not ALL. The fact that she capitalized it in her tweet means it was deliberate and well thought out. If we were hearing her say it, we would likely have heard the sneer.
