Bold Sarah Palin

I wasn't the only person to notice Sarah Palin's emphasis on the word bold in her speech introducing Michael Reagan.

"So I have the honor of getting to speak with you for a bit here before I get to introduce to you Michael Reagan, and what I want to do in introducing Michael is to continue to encourage him to continue to be bold .

We want him to be bold. We need him to be bold.

So I join you in speaking up and asking the questions and taking action, and here at home in my beloved Alaska I just say, politically speaking, if I die, I die. I'll know that I have spoken up and I will speak up to thank people like Mr. Reagan as we honor his dad, to encourage you too, Alaskans, to do the same and don't just hang in there and go along to get along but stand up and speak up, and be bold and demand that Washington be prudent with our public monies and prioritize for America's security, and forget the political correctness that makes one guard your conversation, and couch our words so cautiously that they lose meaning, and we lose effectiveness, and then we lose hope because we start thinking that politicians are only worried about their poll numbers and attracting campaign contributions for their next bid so that they can hold on to some title and some position."

If you wish to hear how she emphasises the word, here's a link to the audio file.

She used the word before:

...raising eyebrows is the governor’s relationship with an African cleric linked to an anti-witchcraft crusade. This past June, Palin recalled how Bishop Thomas Muthee prayed over her, calling his words “bold” and “awesome.” A 2005 video shows Muthee laying hands on Palin, praying that “every form of witchcraft . . . will be rebuked in the name of Jesus.”

I decided to google the words "evangelical", "pentecostal" and "bold".

The results were interesting.

1) To be the best that I can be, always live for God and be a bold witness for Him in everything I do while showing the love of Christ to those all around me.

2) Lutheran women who act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ are everywhere and come from all walks of life.

3) I am with Jesus now.

What's my Name? My name is Stephen. I was a Bold witness for God.

May you be blessed and encouraged by my story.

4) Jennifer was bold in her witness and full of grace and mercy as she called sinners to repentance.

5) ARISE, Men and Women of Faith! Be a bold witness for Jesus Christ.

6) "...but the righteous are bold as a lion." Proverbs 28:1

12) Young evangelicals: Bold and united

13) Hundreds of young people are united to start an evangelistic and holistic youth movement BOLD TO SHINE since the ones who were killed had had a vision for Estonian Christian youth to be BOLD TO SHINE. Please, pray that God's Spirit would work at and through the young hearts and lives of BOLD TO SHINE

14) Here's what they don't tell you in evangelism training: Being a bold witness doesn't matter if no one is listening.

15) The "Bold Local and Global Witness" section is a call for us to reclaim our evangelical roots.

16) Summary — A day in the life of a Pentecostal may include:

• A Spirit-prompted, bold speaking forth for the Lord.

17) Be Bold and Courageous!

The term "bold witness" has foundation in the bible and is widely used to refer to people who "saw" the light and wish to spread the word of Jesus and the Holy Spirit "boldly" to anybody who will listen... or not.

There were loads more results. Perhaps I'm reading too much into Sarah Palin's use of the word "bold" and it doesn't have any particular significance, but it still seems to be a favourite adjective among evangelical and pentecostal followers.

Coincidence?

  1. Very interesting. Considering her background, she probably brings some religious connotation to everything she says. I havae some family members who have been in the Christian evangelical movement. I was impressed at first, then drew away as it became very my way or the highway. A lot of those involved use it as a crutch to make excuses for behavior and not take responsibility for their actions.

She is one scary lady. She needs to be taken down more than a few pegs. Her overly zealous confidence may be a symptom of something else--like cutting herself off from reality or fear of the truth.

  2. I hope Palin will boldly go where no female GOP VP has gone before: into the space of utter obscurity.

  3. Oops, correction-- that should be: "I hope Palin will boldly go where no female GOP VP NOMINEE has gone before: into the space of utter obscurity."

  4. Religious fundamentalists have their "dog whistles" to signal the faithful " I'm one of you". "Bold" could very well be one of them.

  5. Why would she want Michael Reagan to be bold? If she had ever heard the "blowing up babies" talk, she would think he was too bold.

  6. The problem for "the faithful flock" is that their "Christianist code" is falling on deaf ears. There are not as many of them listening as they like to tout. It is falling on fewer and fewer ears.

As usual, SP is using 1950's tactics in a 21st century world. Remember, SP thinks using a Twitter account is a technological achievement.

  7. The mind boggles!

I'll never feel comfortable with the word "bold" again...

  8. She uses a lot of code words. It's why her followers listen to her word garbage and think she's made a brilliant speech. They hear the code words and phrases, respond to them, and don't notice that it's all wrapped up in verbal nonsense. The rest of us hear garbage and go, "Huh? Is this woman an idiot? Who handed her a microphone?"

She can't even make sense when she's plagiarizing!

  9. Also, the phrase "if I die, I die" from her speech has been said to be from the book of Esther in the Bible.

I think many of her speeches and statements contain references to "Joel's Army" type of phrases and words. She freely uses these phrases and references, which attracts many of her followers.

  14. I can't listen to her voice for more than about 30 seconds, without getting a headache.

Reading transcripts of her word salad is bad enough!

    ALASKA, please-make her go AWAY!

  15. She is a fruitcake! I blame JohnMcCain and wacko group that adore her. Only someone mentally I'll and empty inside could be taken in by Palin. She is just another Alaskan crook. She has accomplished nothing in her job. For a long time now.
