Jeremy Paxman is an English journalist, author and television presenter. He has worked for the BBC since 1977. Best known for his abrasive and forthright style of interviewing on the BBC's Newsnight programme, he has been praised as tough and incisive and criticised as aggressive, condescending and irreverent. As a consequence, tough questioning is sometimes referred to in the United Kingdom as Paxmanesque.

I have received the following comment on the post "Gates of Hell".

I am a staff worker with the Jews for Jesus organization. Most blogs and news services have quoted the same snippet of the 30-minute message that David Brickner of Jews for Jesus delivered at Sarah Palin’s church, giving the false impression that he believes that terrorist attacks are God’s judgment on Israel for not believing in Jesus. I don’t believe that any one event, whether a terrorist attack or a natural disaster, is a specific fulfillment of or manifestation of a biblical prediction of judgment. I love my Jewish people and the land of Israel. I stand with and support her against all efforts to harm her or her people in any way."

Dear staff worker, I read the transcript of the Wasilla address. Brickner says the conflict throughout the Middle East is a an ongoing reflection of judgement. He says again and again and again that Jesus talked about judgement, that people cannot escape the judgement until they acknowledge that Jesus has come and he's the Messiah. To quote Brickner: "When Isaac was in Jerusalem he was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment—you can’t miss it." Brickner created the context of an inescapable judgement, citing the Middle east conflict, to place his revelation that Jesus is the Messiah and the only salvation. Coming back later to say things were taken out of context is the oldest trick in the book. It's what people do when they can't "unsay" things, when they've had a bad episode of foot in mouth syndrome.

Just out of curiosity, please visit their website and read their Statement of Faith, go through all their staments, have a good look around.

Correct me if I'm wrong: a group of people who believe that Jesus is the Messiah and his message the one that reflects true faith is not a group of Jews, it is a group of Christians, regardless of how they try to dress it.

As I understand it, Christians have not repudiated the Old Testament, they take it in conjunction with the New Testament. Together they constitute the Christian bible, which is the basis for what they believe and follow.

The Jewish faith does not incorporate the New Testament as the basis for their beliefs and teachings.

I have no religion, but I believe that religions should be able to co-exist peacefully. Faith is a very personal matter and cannot be imposed. Either you have it or you don't. Either you believe in one thing or you believe in another. There's no need to fight about it or to place one faith above the other. I repeat: it's a deeply personal choice. If we are to believe what many churches preach as absolute truth, that those who don't follow their teachings to the letter are going to hell, then we're ALL in big trouble! They have already condemned each other and the rest of humanity to eternal damnation...

Now, why do Jews (Christians) for Jesus, whose aim is to frighten Jews into embracing Jesus Christ, feel the need to go to Sarah Palin's Wasilla Bible Church to preach to the converted?

Stop worrying about the media, Sarah

Sarah Palin can stop worrying about the horrible biased media. All the liberal journalists and newscasters can retire and enjoy life at their leisure.

There is one person doing a fine job of proving, beyond reasonable doubt, that Sarah Palin is a complete idiot. He's doing it all by himself.

Poor Bristol Palin...

Ann Coulter was interviewed on CNN by Joy Behar last Thursday. After showing her staggering ignorance about a variety of subjects, Coulter had something to say about Bristol Palin. (Ann Coulter believes single mothers are the root of every evil that plague society today)

JOY BEHAR: And, also, what do you think about Bristol Palin? She's a single mother...

ANN COULTER: I think she should give the child up for adoption or marry the father. I mean I say in that -- I sell -- I think the people who should be revered aren't the baby mommas, they are the people who have shotgun marriages. Apparently a lot of those shotgun marriages worked out because they used to have them a lot and the divorce rate was lower.


I don't know where this woman gets her ideas, but she sells a lot of books. Which reminds of another woman, equally as ignorant and bigoted, who sells books like hot cakes. Not her own, but she's all set to write her truthful autobiography. I bet she will write a chapter about how very proud she is of Bristol for her decision to keep her babies. (oops! baby...)


Everybody has an opinion about Bristol, people are divided in agreeing or disagreeing with her view that abstinence only is unrealistic.

The following are snippets from a blog by somebody who firmly believes that abstinence only works.

"Many people who admired the way that the Palin family handled their family crisis last summer will be rightly disappointed with this new word from Bristol."

"The larger and more important issue is that sexual abstinence until marriage is the biblical expectation and command."

"The debate over whether abstinence is realistic or not misses the more important issue -- abstinence must be made realistic."

"Far too many Christian parents allow their teenagers to be part of the "hooking up" scene of teenage culture."

According to this woman: abstinence only = lock up your daughters; Bristol = sinner

Bristol appears to have so many burdens... No matter which way she turns, she's bound to displease someone.

I can't say whether I agree with Bristol or not. I've heard the uncomfortable, scripted interview with Greta but I doubt that I've heard Bristol's own voice.

The best decision she could make now would be to grab her babies and get as far away as she can from her mother. There are only so many times Bristol can survive being thrown under the bus!

Sarah Palin: " We can responsibly and safely develop our natural resourses"

“We’ve got to let the federal government know we can responsibly and safely develop our natural resources.”

Anchorage Daily News, February 19, 2009:

An unknown amount of oil, natural gas and water spilled from a Prudhoe Bay pipeline this week in an incident under investigation by state regulators.

(...)

Prudhoe Bay, the state's biggest oil field, has had a series of spills in recent years that have led to heightened oversight by state and federal regulators of operations there.

BP runs the field on behalf of itself, Exxon Mobil, Conoco Phillips and Chevron.

From a comment on the above report:

"There are few regulations, fewer regulators, and almost no enforcement up there. These spills aren't inevitable, they're a result of industry cutting corners to boost their profits".

Let's hear Sarah Palin again:
