Palingates Weekly Roundup August 17-20, 2010

By Blueberry Tart

Idaho Vandal presented an excellent guest post on Sarah Palin’s “college collage.” Beginning in Hawaii, true to future form, she dropped out of one college within two weeks, then spent one semester at Hawaii Pacific University, the next two at North Idaho College, skipped a semester before going to the University of Idaho for 2 semesters, then went to Mat-Su Community College (part-time) for a semester before spending three more semesters at UI, reportedly receiving a degree in 1987. Degree in what, you may ask…“journalism.” Or was it “communications.” Minor in poli-sci – or maybe not? As with all things Palin, her college story is hard to follow and doesn’t add up. This is her MO. She’s been getting away with things that are confusing and hard to follow for more than twenty years. Many ‘Gaters think the blonde throwing the mortarboard is Sarah’s sister.

Micmac “alerts” Sarah to the glaring inconsistency in her endorsement of Governor Christie of New Jersey. Christie reappointed a judge who refused to grant a restraining order against a man who repeatedly abused his wife, claiming he was following Sharia law. Undoubtedly now (or perhaps by the time hell freezes over) she will rescind her endorsement and ask them both to step down. (Fortunately, the judge’s ruling was overturned by a higher court.) Patrick commented on the influence of Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal on the American media. He holds a large interest in Murdock’s News Corp, and uses it to influence American energy politics. The post also includes a video and links on Emily’s List “mama grizzlies” fighting back against Sarah politics that would set women back decades, and a link to Salon on the “mosque” fear-mongering.

Regina (!) has an excellent post discussing whether oil and wildlife mix, in the ANWR. Greta Van Susteren traveled there with Sarah and Todd, who gave their view of the area – flat, barren, devoid of any real value – except its oil. They implied that a few caribou visible from their site, along with 2 birds, were representative of the area’s wildlife. Regina’s research showed otherwise. The outstanding wildlife include muskox, arctic gyrfalcon, snow goose, polar bear, arctic fox, bowhead whale, and porcupine caribou, among others. Who do you trust for information about ANWR, the US Fish & Wildlife Service or Sarah Palin? Is there a connection between Greta VS’s coverage of ANWR and Patrick’s discussion in the last post on the promotion of gas/oil interests by Faux News?

Another excellent guest post, this one by FreeTrig, who shares on-the-ground observations of Sarah and Todd at the Ted Stevens funeral. Sarah had no role in the funeral, as the speakers, led by VP Biden, were colleagues who had worked with Stevens during his 40 year tenure in the Senate. Sarah was out of the limelight, a few rows back, where she chewed gum, tweeted, and – wait for it – rolled her eyes. (If you thought she might give up on that gesture for a while, after the Homer fiasco, you’d be wrong. She always doubles down on her gaffes.)

Republican activist Andrée McLeod

Andrée McLeod is one of the bravest and most determined people on the planet, and she is not going to sit down and shut up. She is now calling for an investigation into rampant corruption in the Parnell-Palin administration…Trans-Canada, AGIA, Enstar, Todd and Jim Palin lobbying, cronyism at the AK Energy Authority, Parnell using state employees to staff his campaign, dairygate…AK sure is a mess!

Comments of the Week

Sunnyjane: A new slogan for the Democratic party should be: You Have Nothing to Fear but FOX NEWS Itself.

Bluerinse: I asked her, but she didn't reply to me. @SarahPalinUSA Is yr latest twitapalooza because they upped or lowered your meds? Hope under #Obamacare they get it right for all our sakes

HelenNPN had a sobering report on a Quran-burning event hosted by a “church” in Florida. "We believe that Islam is of the devil, that it's causing billions of people to go to hell, it is a deceptive religion, it is a violent religion and that is proven many, many times," Pastor Terry Jones told CNN's Rick Sanchez earlier this week.

Bell Peppery: PepBelle@SarahPalinUSA Yes, you have the right to leak amnio fluid and fly ~10 hours while 8 months preggo but, should you?

Conservmommy: Now... on with the mission. Just call us the Anti-Palin 'Progressive Conservatives'!

Aha: It's too bad Sarah can't be arrested for Twittering Under The Influence (TUTI).

Kellygrrrl: …I can see journos not wanting to touch babygate w/o irrefutable evidence ... but there is more than enough video evidence of her participating in some insane cultish rituals…It pisses me off to no end that Rightwingers get a free pass on so many issues to which Leftwingers are skewered and destroyed: religion, infidelity, ethics ... to name but a few

Toccaro had an encouraging post about how his/her daughter recently realized that Sarah did fake the pregnancy, after not believing it previously.

AnnaLynne had a good catch from USA Today article: she also says "’I've never had problems with my other pregnancies, so I was shocked,’ said Palin, a mother of four other children." Ummm how about those 2 miscarriages?

Mrs TBB BS meter was going off: …Given that I have a degree in journalism (DING!) from a public university (DING!), worked as a journalist and editor (DING! DING!), as did Mr. B (DING!), and that Mr. B frequently reads resumes and hires people (DING! DING! DING!)…Well, all I can say is that once again, $P is lying through her dental veneers (DING!).

Leota2: The only thing I have to say to this is---this proves that Sarah is unstable. One transfer to another school--sure. Lack of funds doesn't usually send you scurrying around to different states and paying application fees to different colleges… I'm thinking Sarah just couldn't adjust, and tended to bolt when the heat was on or she was bored. Future quitter is what this says. Also, I'm thinking she may go through manic periods.

Jen: I think this aspect is extremely important. Her record on this is very distinctive, as you write, and points to an inability to see things through…

Yknott: Sooo...she had a faux pregnancy, a faux degree, a faux marriage, a faux book and she works for faux news. At least she is consistent! :)

And later: Her "college career" does not pass the smell test and I'm betting the McCain "Vetting Team" stumbled on to this early on and buried as much as they could.

Jk on a similar theme: …What I see is a woman who pretends to be an great athlete, pretends to be the hero, pretends to have perseverance, pretends to have a servants heart, pretends to be a good mother, pretends to be a good wife, and pretends to know what she's talking about…

This earlier comment was reposted: madisonhack …Palin never graduated from college. I called the University of Idaho and the Office of the Registrar has no record of Sarah Louise Heath having graduated there in 1987...NO RECORD... Again, they had no record of her degree in 1987, 1986, or 1988 for that matter.

Leota2: The most fascinating thing about all of this is---why would a woman who was a mayor, a governor and then a vice-presidential candidate ONLY talk about high school?

Kellygrrrl had the answer: I believe they call that "arrested development" -- emotionally, she never actually graduated from high school, that was her peak, and she will continue to be emotionally drawn to it until she works through her issues -- which we all know is never going to happen.
Guest had a detailed post (early Wednesday) reporting that he/she could not find anyone else with a degree in communications from UI in 1987; the post also provides current degree requirements.

Ivyfree: Some people grow up learning to be successful. Sarah grew up learning to lie to conceal her failure. Now she says she graduated from college. Please explain to me why I should believe her.

MadamDeal on the “señorita con cojones” article: … if Victoria was discussing Palin's feminine side it should have included…the "victim" persona as the "damsel in distress." …she is also a Mom Victim…You never say anything critical about mothers. Ever…Her lying and cowardice are hidden behind her Noble Mother image…

Palinized picked this off HuffPo (Many ‘Gaters made similar comments): "Most universities require a minimum of 15 credit hours /semester or 120 semester hours of credit to graduate. Assuming she took 15 hours of credits at Hawaii the D in economics would not have transfered to the University of Idaho. None of the credits from Mat-Su CC would have transfered since it wasn't an accredited school until after Palin attended. Even if University of Idaho were being generous they would not have accepted more than about 3/4 of the credits from North Idaho Community College and Hawaii. In changing majors frequently as Palin did one loses credits toward graduation because they don't apply to one's major. It seems unlikely she ever accumulated enough semester credits to graduate given the number of semesters she spent in accredited colleges and universities."

Anon: …She comes across as angry and maliciously envious of people who achieved higher education…

‘Gaters liked Conscious at Last’s comment: "The current GOP is the party of OIL and War".

kellygrrrl: of the top 5 contenders for the GOP presidential nomination, 4 are Fox employees

This led others to remind us that Fox just contributed $1M to the Republicans.

Tan had many interesting comments this week; here is part of one: Her hatred for Shariah law and the middle eastern theocracies is rooted deep in her envy of these things; the only part Sarah thinks is wrong is 'islam' should be 'christian', 'mohammed' should be 'jesus'. She admires them but despises their wrongness i.e. Their faith in Islam rather than Christianity.

anonPoster: …It's time for all reasonable folks to recognize that Palin and the GOP are deliberately manipulating the public into angry, rancorous arguments about divisive cultural issues every f* cking week in order to avoid discussing the substantive issues.

Deb: You ask, "Who hijacked the term, feminist?" It is those of us who have been fighting for equal rights for ten, twenty, thirty, forty years prior to you ever trying to claim feminism as a way to line your pockets with donations. Yes, Sarah, we have been there paving for the way for your silly ass to run as a VP candidate…

CaliGirl22 led many ‘Gaters in celebrating the departure of US combat troops from Iraq!!!

Rockyintexas: sarah palin opening her mouth causes...much more hate...than any Mosque, anywhere.

There were MANY comments on Sarah’s tweets during and after Ted Stevens funeral, including the one urging Dr. Laura Racist to “reload.” Laprofesora summed it up: Can she be any more pathetic, tweeting from a funeral? This is a new low, even for her. I swear, she's going off the deep end...

Dag: …Sarah Palin seems perpetually angry, always being provocative with some adversary or another, always with a perceived enemy.. If…people start to notice that this woman can't seem to shutup, that she is always expressing anger - and that she…is now siding with a racist - they will form unpleasant associations with her at the very least, and hopefully dismiss her because of it…

Ebbtide: She is not amusing. She is not entertaining. She is a loud-mouthed demagogue who has done nothing but bring shame to our country.

Louiecypher: the Queen has her English so why not you!?!? We'll call it Plinglish for starters…Gafferastical, see this is where you make a gaffe and use it in your favor.. Splainwreck, this is where you try and explain something you are supposedly an expert on and fail...

Kellygrrrl: Bitter Quitter Twits unite in Free Hate Speech. Cackle on, Rad Fem'bots! And: Passe Posse of Cackling Cliche Quitter Queens

JCos: Greta, Grizzly and Toad = Arctic Death Panel

Avasmom: Sarah must have known that it was offensive to tweet the world "shackles" in her defense of Dr. Laura's use of the n-word. However, in typical childish Sarah fashion, she decided to repeat the word and use it a few more hundred times in spite of it.

Bandit Basheert translated RAM-Sarah’s FB: Let me translate: I love racists but I don't like being called a racist and it's ok even if I use the "n" word because like Dr. Laura I am allowed to use the "n" word as long as I don't call someone the 'n' word and this is a plot by Obama to once again condemn conservatives because I reloaded when this happened to me and now Dr. Laura is being shackled by her detractors when she is falsely accused of being a racist .... and EOY added: You forgot the part about everyone trying to steal her 1st amendment rights!

Maelewis: …It also explains why Sarah needs to bring along members of her family when she attends events and gives speeches. It reminds me of a time in school when some girls needed a "best friend" [who] was the recipient of gossip, and together, the two could laugh at people, make remarks or tease. It was a mutual kind of psychological devise, because neither could hurl insults and smart remarks without the other… Later mae took on Sarah’s use of the word “shackle” in her FB post.

ThanksABunchJohn: In one day Palin completely offended two huge voting blocks, women and minorities. Twitter shut down - many times - and it was all negative reaction. She must be insane, there just isn't any other explanation.

Deb: Roh Roh, the Governut forgot that she said this previously .
LMAO. Oops, she did it again!!

ApparentReality: …She doesn't have that inner "silent witness" that keeps insane behaviors in check.

Trisha: Oh I see, in Palin's view, using the word "retard" on a adult cartoon program is unacceptable and she lashes out on facebook and attacks the show and it's writers. But, Dr. S. using the "N" word over and over is just fine....even good.

CaliGirl22: Hey Sarah, what college did you graduate from? Sarah replies "any of 'em, all of 'em".

D lusia: In fact, I have compassion for Palin in a general way because I believe she has a mental illness. That said, I am acutely aware that her backers are militaristic, intolerant, and fanatical followers of various isms and creeds--from neocons to religious fundamentalist extremists and that she's a potential threat as long as she fronts for them. She operates as a fulcrum at the intersection of a dangerous, blind militarism with religious zealotry and bigotry.

Krbmjb65: I call it "Tweet and Retreat" and "Drive-By Facebooking"

Carriesblank is going to the 8/28 Washington rally; here is a sign idea from mxm: He had a dream, she quit. Ivyfree: Terrorist funder Al Waleed pays Sarah & Beck salaries- WHY?

Greetings to Suelu814, a long-time reader and first time poster. Drpatois and others had excellent comments late Saturday/early Sunday. There were so many good ones that I ran out of room!

Andrée McLeod calls on Alaska Legislature to appoint Special Prosecutor in order to investigate corruption in the "Parnell-Palin Administration"

Andrée McLeod today sent the following letter to the Alaska Legislature:

+++

Senate President Stevens and House Speaker Chenault:

I call on you to appoint a Special Prosecutor with full subpoena and investigative powers to investigate the systemic corruption in the Parnell-Palin Administration. It is the Parnell-Palin Administration because, even though he is acting Governor, Sean Parnell has kept the Palin Administration in place.

The State Ethics Board is impotent and Ethics Board attorney Tim Petumenos, as vice president of the law firm Birch, Horton, Bittner & Cherot, contracts with the state for bond counsel and civil work. Petumenos will not do anything to endanger those contracts since, as a shareholder, he shares in the income generated from those contracts. That is one reason he white-washed Palin’s Troopergate, Lamal hire at DOT, family travel and legal defense fund inquiries.

Andrée McLeod

Matters to be addressed by the Special Prosecutor:

1. Whether DNR Commissioner Marty Rutherford steered the gas line project to her former client, Trans-Canada. The Special Prosecutor would investigate to determine, among other things, if Trans-Canada played a role in drafting AGIA and whether Rutherford breached her duty to the state by sharing confidential information regarding any aspect of AGIA with Trans-Canada.

2. Why Joe Balash has been kept on the State Gas Line Team after had been offered a job by Enstar even though the Gas Line Team’s work involves Enstar.

3. Whether the state procurement codes were violated by the RFP processes employed by DNR and the Department of Revenue for contracts related to in-state gas line work.

4. Whether Enstar influenced any of the RFP awards related to in-state gasline work.

5. Whether Todd Palin violated state statutes by lobbying state employees on commercial fishing issues that directly related to his commercial set net operations.

6. What role DNR Commissioner Tom Irwin played in the hiring of his former boss Steve Haagenson as Executive Director of the Alaska Energy Authority. Also, whether Irwin used his state office to help orchestrate the give-away of the Healy Clean Coal Plant to his former employer Golden Valley Electric Association.

7. Answers to questions about the Healy Clean Coal Plant raised by Andrew Halcro (see HERE and HERE)

8. Whether Jim Palin (Todd Palin’s father) lobbied the state administration on behalf of Golden Valley Electric regarding the Healy Clean Coal plant.

9. Whether Revenue Commissioner Pat Galvin breached the State’s obligation for good faith and fair dealing when he unilaterally terminated contracts between AIDEA and Homer Electric for the restart and sale of the Healy Clean Coal Plant. (Galvin to Nordmark/Debnam 12-30-08 letter attached)

10. Why Sean Parnell and Revenue Commissioner Pat Galvin repeatedly refuse to disclose the identity of the 15 new oil and gas explorers who received $193,000,000 million dollars in cash, as stated in this July 10, 2009 Department of Revenue press release. (Jul 10 2009 press release attached) - Note by Patrick: See the extensive reporting by Palingates about this matter HERE

11. Whether Governor Parnell violated state statutes by engaging four state employees (Joe Balash, Gene Therriault, Pete Kelly and Curtis Thayer) as deputy campaign treasurers for his re-election campaign. Balash, Therriault and Kelly were all directly supervised in their state jobs by Parnell. (Deputy Campaign Treasurers list attached)

12. Whether Parnell violated state statutes by hiring Curtis Thayer as Deputy Commissioner of Commerce shortly after Thayer coordinated Parnell’s first major in-state fundraiser in Anchorage for his re-election campaign. Thayer has little to no economic development experience and has been involved for many years in political fundraising for Republicans and in government relations for Enstar.

13. Whether Governor’s staff member Joe Balash was moved from Fairbanks to Anchorage recently at state expense and for the purpose of working on Parnell’s re-election campaign. If it is important for Balash to work in Anchorage re: his state duties, why was he allowed to work out of his home community in Fairbanks for the past three years?

14. Who directed state employees Joe Balash and Curtis Thayer to call lobbyists and other potential campaign donors who had appropriations in the state’s proposed FY 2011 capital budget and advise them to come to a Parnell fundraiser at Bill Sheffield’s house just days before the capital budget was signed. Were promises and threats made by these state employees regarding quid pro quo’s of state appropriations for campaign donations? Were these calls made on state time and on state telephones?

15. Whether Governor Parnell violated state law by orchestrating, with the participation of campaign donors Peggy Brown and Susan Christianson, state-funded ads by a private non-profit corporation that supported his re-election campaign platform against domestic violence? Whether the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault violate their state grant agreement intermingling state monies with the in-kind contributions, discounts and freebies from unidentified sources they collected for the production and airing of these ads? Did Parnell violate federal campaign laws by contributing $15,000 from his remaining 2008 Congressional campaign funds to the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault after they aired the ads in question? Was this an attempt to skirt laws against the use of federal campaign funds to support a state campaign? Did Parnell also violate federal campaign laws by having the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault use film footage in their ad campaign that was also used in Parnell’s 2008 Congressional campaign ads? Were Parnell campaign donations from Brown and Christianson in December 2009 just before the ads aired evidence of an orchestrated effort to use state funds through a private non-profit corporation to support his re-election campaign? Was Parnell telling the truth in 2000 when he denied a family history of domestic violence in a Juneau Empire Article or in 2010 when he describes a family history of domestic violence in these ads? (Brown and Christianson contributions, FEC Report, Apr 2000 article, KTUU Feb 2010 report attached)

16. Whether Bill McAllister, Mike Nizich and Linda Perez violated state rules and laws when Bill McAllister received his salary while he traveled to Sweden on a family vacation upon being hired in July of 2008…without submitting any leave slips. (Nizich-McAllister stranded in Sweden email attached)

17. Whether laws were violated when chief of staff Mike Nizich was kept on the ONLY ONE PUBLIC MEMBER SEAT of the Aerospace Development Corporation board, which prohibited a bona fide genuine true member of the public from being appointed to the board.

18. And lastly, where the money trail leads with the whole Matanuska Maid affair - Note by Patrick: See the extensive reporting by Palingates about "Dairygate" HERE

There is much in the Parnell-Palin administration that needs looking into. A Special Prosecutor appointed by you will go a long way to correct the unacceptable course of the Parnell-Palin administration.

All too often, legislators have ignored what’s been right under their nose. But, it was Martin Luther King, Jr. who said, “The time is always right to do what is right.”

Do right by your constituents. Be good stewards. Exercise your charge. Appoint a Special Counsel so the people within the Parnell-Palin administration who are responsible for inappropriate conduct and improper actions can be held accountable. Maybe then, Alaskans might feel like they have been made whole.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns.

Sarah and Todd Palin at Ted Stevens' funeral - An eyewitness report

Guest post by FreeTrig

I saw Sarah Palin do the derisive bumpit headbob and eyeroll at Senator Steven's funeral. But before I go on, I ask for your patience to set the scene, in context, to the best of my ability:

Sarah and Todd entered the church unobtrusively about 30 minutes before the service began. They were ushered in to sit in the third row back of the section reserved for state politicians. I was sitting less than ten feet away and had an unavoidable view of her.

Sarah's presence merited a few polite nods and a few courtesy handshakes from those around her. She had no other interaction with anyone else except for the man seated to her left (unknown to me and my connected spouse.) She engaged in an animated monologue with this man while waiting for the service to begin. Todd occupied himself by staring up at the photo montage of Ted on the overhead screens above the stage. When the mystery man got a chance to talk, Sarah' s mouth kept moving. She was smacking a wad of gum.

The super-sized church was packed. Those who couldn't get a seat on the main floor or balcony of the cavernous sanctuary were squeezed into 'overflow' rooms in the sprawling complex. This was a gathering of the ultimate Who's Who of Alaska and beyond. More than 20 current and former US Senators made the long trip here to honor Ted. There were high-ranking military types on hand and someone told me Colin Powell was in the house (although I did not see him.) A princess from Easter Island also made the journey here along with Ted Kennedy's widow, Victoria.

And then there were the rest of us. Thousands of everyday, ordinary Alaskans who were lucky enough to be touched directly or indirectly by a man who gave his life to this beautiful place that we are fortunate to call our home.

The service began at 2 pm. Vice President Biden gave a moving tribute to his former colleague and friend. He recalled how Ted reached out to him in a special way when his wife and daughter were killed in a car accident in 1972. They remained friends and respected each other despite their political differences for nearly four decades.

Senator Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) was the last of the Capitol colleagues to speak. He was one of Ted's most cherished friends. His simple, but heartfelt words moved the crowd to several rounds of affectionate laughter and appreciative applause.

He spoke about the years when Senators were willing to reach out across the aisle - the long gone days when bipartisan cooperation, not blind contention, was the rule. Senator Inouye joked that Ted even managed to get long with Joe Biden, who, if we didn't know it, just happened to be.....'a Democrat!' That got a big laugh. He followed that little zinger with a remark that he really liked the crowd because we understood what Senators referred to as the finer points of 'double talk.'

That's when she did it. She snapped her head violently to the right toward her otherwise ignored husband and finished off her petty and poorly timed gesture with a flourish of rolling her eyes.

My. God. Or "whatnot." I wish the hell I had it on camera.

Unfortunately (for me and, perhaps all the others who were seated behind her) it is now indelibly woven into the memory of this day that we had to say good-bye to a good man. It was the same sick, sad and uncontrollably inappropriate display of disrespectful contempt that Sarah Palin showed earlier this month to the teacher from Homer.

Sarah managed to maintain some decorum for the remainder of the service. After the Honor Guard, family and dignitaries accompanied Uncle Ted's casket to the hearse outside, Sarah was stuck with all the rest of us waiting to leave the sanctuary through the main doors. By the time I noted that she was no longer behind us, it was just after 4:30 p.m. Somehow, she managed to find another way out.

As we know now, Sarah only waited a matter of minutes after the funeral to pull out her Blackberry to unleash her latest psycho-tsunami of hateful Tweets on Twitter, defending "Dr." Laura for using the N-word.

Something is deeply, deeply, wrong with her. But WE know that.

Let's keep on letting others know.

+++

Another eyewitness left a shorter report under the name "MM" on "politicususa".

Pictures of Sarah and Todd at the funeral can be seen HERE and HERE.

+++

"FreeTrig" also sent me this additional comment:

I know what I saw and am glad it was apparent to others who were there. After the service started, I was swept into the moment and was focused on what the speakers were saying so I wasn't paying attention at that point to Sarah and Todd. The head snap and eyeroll were jolting. After that, I did spend more time watching her demeanor. I was not in a position to see her hands - I had a clear profile view of Sarah and Todd's faces. I also noticed they did not sing the last hymn.

Once the service ended, Sarah and Todd pretty much stuck to themselves. I don't think they were being polite or restrained. No one sought them out. They were surrounded by people who revile them and it showed.

Sarah Palin's "barren" ANWR

The Palins and Greta Van Susteren discussed ANWR "On The Record" and concluded that the area where Sarah Palin wants to drill, baby, drill is barren.

VAN SUSTEREN: You know, Todd, it struck me that it's quite flat and there's not a lot of -- I didn't see a lot of animal life or anything. How far south is it like this? What's the terrain like?
TODD PALIN: Many miles south before we get into the mountain range, as you can see. And so when you see pictures of ANWR in the mountains and moose, I don't see that anywhere here, or to the north of us.
SARAH PALIN: You can look about 60 miles south and still see what we're seeing right now. So yes, as Todd's suggesting, the fundraiser pictures and the websites that show waterfalls and moose and mountain ranges and Dahl sheep climbing along shale (ph), that's not the real ANWR.
VAN SUSTEREN: Is there anything to ANWR besides this flat that we've seen? I mean, have we have seen pretty much a representation of ANWR.
TODD PALIN: Pretty much. On our flight down here from Prudhoe, down here to Kavik hunting camp, yes.
VAN SUSTEREN: So what about animal life? Have we seen -- have we seen any animals since we've been here?
TODD PALIN: Saw about five caribou when we landed, and there's a caribou across the runway here. But there's plenty of caribou around here normally.
SARAH PALIN: Somebody said they saw two birds. That adds to the species list. But there are some -- out of the 20 million acres set aside in ANWR, there is wilderness. There is refuge area. There are some more beautiful, more scenic landscapes to look at. But the 1002 area, the 1.5 million acres that have been set aside for the oil and gas development, including the 2,000 acres that are needed for the footprint for the development, that's the barren remoteness that you're looking at.
VAN SUSTEREN: You know, you don't have a sense of how big this is unless you actually come up and look at it.
SARAH PALIN: Absolutely. That's key, you know, to consider the 20 million acres of this, plus the 23 million acres of -- that's pretty much adjacent to the National Petroleum Reserve Alaska area. These tens of millions of acreages that are so vast, so remote, yes, people don't understand even what kind of context we're talking about until they get up here.
VAN SUSTEREN: Todd, can you understand any of the environmental concerns or any of the complaints about this from people?
TODD PALIN: Well, you know, working on the slope for close to 20 years, knowing what we do every day to maintain our license to do business, it's hard for me to understand the direction. You know, they just want to lock up this state. Any kind of species, endangered species, they just want to lock up our complete state, let alone ANWR, for resource development.

From Wikipedia:
The question of whether to drill for oil in the ANWR has been an ongoing political controversy in the United States since 1977. The controversy surrounds drilling for oil in a 1,500,000 acres (6,100 km2) subsection on the coastal plain, known as the "1002 area." Much of the debate over whether to drill in the 1002 area of ANWR rests on the amount of economically recoverable oil, as it relates to world oil markets, weighed against the potential harm oil exploration might have upon the natural wildlife, in particular the calving ground of the Porcupine caribou.
A few google searches later, it turns out that area 1002 is far from barren.

The area is home to the following creatures: caribou, Porcupine caribou, muskoxen, polar bears, snow geese, gyrfalcons, Arctic foxes and bowhead whales, among others.

Sarah Palin endorsed New Jersey Governor Chris Cristie - A supporter of Sharia Law?

Guest post by micmac

How ‘Bout Those Muslims, Sarah?

Just two years after you declared that Muslims “have a place in the Republican Party” in an October 2008 campaign interview, these darn people dare to build a mosque TWO BLOCKS from Ground Zero. What ARE they thinking?

Were they somehow confused by your campaign message? Did you, somehow, unknowingly, embolden these people?

And as if that were not enough, now this:

Are you aware that one of your political endorsements, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, appears to SUPPORT SHARIA LAW?

In May 2010, Christie reappointed NJ Judge Joseph Charles FOR LIFE to the bench, a judge who refused to grant a restraining order for a Muslim woman against her husband for sexual abuse in the Fall of 2009. . . ON THE BASIS OF SHARIA LAW?

Unbelievable, you say? I agree, but read it here.

Sarah, one thing you and I both have in common is a desire that Sharia Law never take hold in this fair country of ours. So, I am trying to do you a favor here, bringing this to your attention.

Surely Christie knew of the judge’s decision prior to reappointing him. I know, it’s late, and you were obviously hoodwinked by Christie -- I mean who knew the guy would not take a stand against Sharia Law creeping into our country, who ever imagined him “pandering to Islam?”

But there it is.

I expect you are fully capable of responding to this travesty, and I look forward to your statement withdrawing your endorsement of Christie for Governor. Go All Mama Grizzly on him, Sarah. Demand that Christie, and the judge who rendered this awful verdict, step down from office.

Sarah Palin, do the Right Thing!

Sarah, one thing that we both share is the penultimate desire that Sharia Law never take hold in this fair country of ours.

But all this time that the nation has been focused on a building located on private American property and all, I noticed something that the Mosquey-Hopey-Changey-Thingey controversy appeared to distract from something that I would assume would be dear to your heart. Something that you would wish me to draw your attention to.

Should you run for President and all.

A rallying cry against the creeping influence of Sharia Law in this country.

I know you don’t like this, Sarah. And I don’t, either.

I am a member of one of your pro-Palin websites, and gotta tell ya, these folks don’t like Muslims, of any stripe, and they are very noisy about it. I try to stick up for moderate Muslims there, but your supporters just ain’t buying into the notion that this sort of human being even exists.

Note by Patrick:

I wonder how one of Sarah Palin's "employers", Saudi Prince Alwaleed, views the current "NYC mosque controversy." My feeling is that he might not be too happy. Also, I wonder how many of the faithful Fox News viewers actually know that a representative of one of the most extreme muslim countries has a substantial influence on Fox?

Gosh, why are things always so darn complicated? ;-) Who is the Fox, who is the Grizzly, who is the Caribou, who is the Salmon? Sometimes you never know...

In the end, it's all about oil, of course - the great uniter.

Background about Prince Alwaleed and his involvement with News Corp., the parent company of Fox News, as reported on prwatch.org:

"Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal now owns a 7 percent stake in Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., the parent company of Fox News, making him the company's largest shareholder outside of Murdoch's own family.

Alwaleed is best known for going to Ground Zero after the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks and personally handing then-mayor Rudolph Giuliani a check for $10 million to help finance relief efforts. Afterwards, Alwaleed released a statement blaming the attacks not on the Saudi airline hijackers, but on U.S. policies in the middle east. As a result, Giuliani returned the prince's donation, gaining him praise from Fox News for doing so.

Now that Alwaleed has a controlling ownership in News Corp., he is gaining influence over Fox News. In 2005, just months after Alwaleed acquired his first 5.4 percent stake in News Corp., Fox News covered riots in Paris under a banner saying "Muslim riots." Alwaleed allegedly called Murdoch and had him change the banner to say "Civil riots." Investigative journalist Joseph Trento also reported that a comment he recently made on a Fox Network morning news show, Fox and Friends, about Saudi Arabian money still financing Al Qaeda, was edited out of the show. Trento also reports that Alwaleed "has personally donated huge amounts of money to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers."

In a rare interview with Fox News' Neil Cavuto in January, Alwaleed explained his personal reasons for seeking influence in American politics: the U.S. buys Saudi Arabia's oil, and the bulk of his country's gross domestic product (GDP) comes from oil. Fox News reliably broadcasts misinformation on clean energy, and aggressively fights efforts to move America away from being dependent on a fossil fuels."

Meanwhile, the mosque controversy causes some disruption in the GOP - as reported on Fox yesterday.

"Salon" published an excellent article on Monday, explaining in detail how the mosque controversy started and what had happened until Sarah Palin released her "twitter-rants." It turns out that Pamela Geller, a "right-wing, viciously anti-Muslim, conspiracy-mongering blogger" (Salon), started the whole thing, and then others, including Sarah Palin, jumped on it. Crazy minds think alike.

Please also read the article by Stephanie Schriock, President of Emily's List, in Huffington Post: "Sarah Doesn't Speak for Me".

In the meantime, Sarah Palin herself also observed that some "sistas" don't really like her too much. So Sarah today thought to herself: If I am the Queen, I can just declare that feminism shall have no relevance any more for now and in eternity, can't I?
