Letter by a journalist on Sarah Palin: A strange, fearful darkness covering the land we call America - PLUS: Palin calls Jonathan Martin a "punk"

This letter by Don Floyd, a retired journalist who lives in Griffin, Georgia, was sent to one of our readers. His thoughts certainly reflect the feelings of many Americans.

Don Floyd was the copy editor of the Charlotte Observer. He also was the executive managing editor of the Star-News in Pasadena, CA and the managing editor of The Macon Telegraph. He is the author of the book "The Captain and Thomasine."

M:

There are many unexplainables concerning Sarah Palin, and I find myself trying to explain the unexplainable. A lot of what I say here is based on intuition, horse sense and perhaps a smidgen of paranoia.

When Palin was first introduced to the world scene by John McCain – the very act of which proved that McCain was unfit to be president – I thought: Sarah Who? Who is this woman? Then my liberal friends started wringing their hands over the prospect of a bimbo soaring to political heights. I pooh-poohed the notion, saying that Palin was a flash in the pan and would never go anywhere except maybe back to a trailer park someplace in the bleakest part of Alaska. I have never been more wrong – in all my years of political observation. Here’s where I made my mistake. I was relying upon conventional wisdom – my own conventional wisdom perhaps – and saw in Palin a laughing stock in the making. I was not fully aware at the time of a strange, fearful darkness that was covering the land we call America. Something truly frightening has moved in and is doing nothing less than threatening our national security.

McCain with Cindy and Palin

I should have had a clue when the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly and Fox News started moving up in popularity. I should have had a clue when the Republicans chose John McCain, a known adulterer, as its nominee. You’ll recall that McCain’s extremely loyal first wife nursed him to health after he returned from his POW experience. Well, after McCain was doing well enough to start bed-hopping with women, his first wife was grotesquely injured in a car accident. At some point after that, McCain met Cindy, whose father had a similar POW experience, and it was love at first sight for Cindy’s entire family. They all loved John. And, of course, his newfound wealth helped ease his conscience as he made sure his first wife was taken care of with Cindy’s money. After an affair with a Southern Baptist (Cindy) that lasted about a year, McCain asked first wife for a divorce, which she dutifully granted. One or two of her own children by a previous marriage are even working for Cindy now.

This is way beyond kinky!!! It’s a sad allegorical commentary on the depths this nation has plunged morally. No complaints from the Moral Majority, however. They glory in the fact that McCain attends a Baptist church in Arizona about once every five years and have no problem with him calling himself a Baptist which he’s not. Never been baptized, and as far as I know never attends an Episcopal church where his real membership lies dormant. The Southern Baptist Convention, which normally rails against drinking alcohol, has no problem whatever with Cindy making her millions by distributing beer. I suppose she pays her tithes – and more – at the grateful Baptist church she is a member of. The Southern Baptists are smiling all the way to the bank.

But I digress. I was talking about Sarah Palin, another immoral basket case. To repeat, I had not seen the signs when Palin emerged from nowhere to become No. 2 on the Republican ticket. She had no accomplishments to speak of as Alaska’s governor, her main claim to fame being mayor of Wasilla. Oh, that, and possessing foreign relations experience by looking across the water and seeing Russia. Oh, that, and having the talent to tote babies – anybody’s baby. Evidence for any political ascendancy by Palin just wasn’t there at the time. Sadly, there were a lot of things I did not see or know at the time.

First, the news media found Palin to be good theater. Many people saw her as exciting, different, folksy, feisty, born again, and a real family woman. And the news media was happy to start earning a profit for a change thanks to Palin’s draw. You are aware that the news media operates on a narrative, which is drafted and modified daily – even hourly – for maximum suck-in power. If there is no tension, the news media creates tension. If there is no real race, the news media makes it the most exciting race in political history. And when there is real news – news that does not agree with the narrative – that news is left to languish.

The news media is at its lowest since William Randolph Hearst. But this is not yellow journalism. It’s reactionary journalism, a calculated choice for an ailing industry facing possible extinction because of the Internet.

The news media, you see, could not afford to bring down Palin because it would sorely cost them in the pocketbook. The news media and politicians are co-conspirators. The Republicans put out the lies and trash, and the news media reports the lies and trash virtually without challenge.

Let me modify that. Lies and trash also are fired away daily in emails, sent to gleeful believers who then forward them to their entire address book.

And that brings up another question in this Palin phenomenon. Who writes this email stuff? Is it somebody out there with nothing else better to do, or is it a serial killer who enjoys a hobby on the side? No, I believe Big Money is behind this endless array of lying emails, just as Big Money was behind those people screaming at the town hall meetings. The agenda is to halt a movement toward decency in government, because a return to decency in government would adversely affect Big Money’s big money. And if an email says what the reader wants it to say he believes it eagerly and completely. I don’t know when Big Money staged a political coup and took over America, but it is now fighting for its life, and I like to think it is desperate. The lying emails and Sarah Palin herself are good evidence of this desperation.

You mentioned Rupert Murdoch being in Alaska the same day Palin resigned as governor

(Note by Patrick: Rupert Murdoch's plane was seen in Juneau at the end of July in 2009, shortly after Palin's resignation

EDIT - Phil Munger from "Progressive Alaska" just told us the following: "I believe the plane was first observed at the Juneau airport in late June, 2009, not early July. IIRC, a cab driver called me about it during the last weekend in June.").

Rupert Murdoch's plane in Juneau at the end of July 2009 - Click to enlarge

I do think this is good circumstantial evidence of a link between the two. Hell, Murdoch may have even orchestrated her resignation after doing a deal with the rest of Alaska, that deal being to get Palin the hell out of Alaska – and we don’t care how – and we won’t do any more investigating of wrongdoing and we certainly won’t prosecute. Alaska is already in lousy fiscal shape, thanks to Palin, and any long drawn-out investigation and prosecution would drain Alaska’s finances even more. You never know what Murdoch has up his sleeves. I don’t. Whatever it is, Palin is a key player. Why? Maybe he wants to be president after getting Palin elected. She’s too stupid to run anything, much less the U.S. government. I’m hoping that Murdoch is so desperate (Big Money desperate) that his judgment has been clouded. Also, has he taken into account that Palin is volatile, likes to scream a lot at people and throw canned goods at the first dude? Can she be controlled? How many more babies is she going to have? I can see the headlines now after another baby mysteriously appears long after the first dude is out of the way, being axe-murdered by Sarah: “Immaculate Conception the American Way.”

Don’t laugh. My headline fairly well sums up the arrogant attitude of about half of America’s population: We need to save the world for Jesus. We need Christianity and democracy in every country. We are, you know, highly favored by God. We can defeat any country in war. We are the best. And those Muslims should be interned just like the Japanese in World War II. On second thought, deport them.

Griffin has a highly respected doctor who is a Muslim. He was born a Muslim right here in Griffin. Should we get rid of him, just kick him out? This is how silly and frightening people are talking these days. I’d like to zap them, but as Richard Nixon said, that would be wrong.

I’m hoping the Tea Party ends up marginalizing the Republicans, who already have come close to suicide. Big Money is hedging its bets, supporting both the Tea Party and the Republicans, and that would seem to benefit the Democrats by splitting the reactionary vote. Again, let’s hope Big Money has become so desperate that its judgment has become too clouded to make rational decisions. You notice that I use the word “hope” a lot. Well, that’s about all we have now. Obama has taken on Big Money. He is at peril. But we can hope, just as he has hoped. Perhaps America can survive this horrific crisis. Yes, we can hope.

Now, on Palin’s baby mystery, I regret that I have not followed that closely. I’m certain, however, that Palin didn’t get extremely great with child in just a month or two. So she lied. This is sort of like perjury, which is much worse than what was lied about. But does the country care? Many don’t – perhaps as much as a half of the citizens don’t. They overlook things if the candidate is their kind of candidate. And the Palin supporters are overlooking a whole lot of stuff. I can’t keep count. The fact that the dark side of America likes Palin is truly scary.

I don’t think I’ve said everything that needs to be said about this mess, but it gives you a pretty good idea of what I think.

Don Floyd

PLUS:

Sarah Palin's obsession with negative news reports is well known for a long time, and also well documented. After all, many of the emails published by MSNBC.COM which were obtained through a FOIA request deal with Palin's reaction to negative or critical media reports.

Examples:

Take the Newsminer off the press release list for a few days - they angered the Queen:

Take Newsminer off the list

Sarah Palin didn't like these little gossip items in the ADN ("Alaska Ear") either:

Gossip crap bugs me

Former Palin speechwriter Glenn Biegel is officially "de-friended" by Sarah Palin because he had the audacity to criticize Palin on the Dan Fagan show - see also this post on Palingates:

Glen Biegel

Sarah Palin, who has to be the most thin-skinned politician in the world, now lashes out again - and calls Jonathan Martin from Politico a "punk" - and the story "BS." That's a real redneck politician for you! Presidential material, definitely, if you are keen to see World War III! "Damn, Putin, you dared to criticize me, now let's see who has the bigger nukes!" After she has nuked half of the Middle-East for being "irritating and potentially dangerous", of course.

Sarah Palin and the Swift Boater

Thanks to our reader "lilylake", there is a new discovery:

Sarah Palin is going to appear at the Convention Center in Austin, Texas on April 29, 2010, at an evening appropriately named: "An evening with Sarah Palin".

Heroic Media - Evening with Sarah Palin

The event is organized by "Heroic Media", located in Austin, Texas. According to their website, they have the following purpose:

"Our Mission

Heroic Media is a faith-based non-profit that reduces abortion by creating a Culture of Life through television, billboard and internet advertising which connects women in crisis with life-affirming pregnancy centers.

Our Regions

Heroic Media aims to help women and babies in crisis across the nation. To accomplish this mission, we are structured by regions: Northeast, West, Midwest, South, and Southeast."

In short, "Heroic Media" conducts anti-abortion campaigns - for example on TV, Internet, billboards and radio.

On the Heroic Media website, they freely admit they attempt to deceive teens with their advertising (h/t EyeOnYou):

"Heroic Media’s billboards are designed so you can’t tell if they’re pro-life or pro-choice. Our billboards typically showcase young women instead of babies. That’s intentional because women in crisis respond best to photos of women they can relate to."

Example of a billboard by "Heroic Media":

Part of their campaigns is a website called "www.teenbreaks.com" which urges teens not to abort. The website is aimed at children from 12 years of age onwards. In case the message falls on deaf ears, the website presents horrible pictures of abortions in order to convince the youngsters that abortion is evil - apparently with success .

Teenbreaks

The connected website "www.heartlink.org" cites from comments which were reportedly sent to "www.teenbreaks.com":

"I finally decided to look at a web site that shows the cons of abortion. After seeing those pictures and reading those stories, I don't see how abortion can still be legal. ABORTION IS HOMICIDE. I could never live with killing a baby, born or unborn."

On the Heartlink website the backers of "www.teenbreaks.com" are mentioned:

"The Rosetta Foundation has been advertising a new Web site for teens, TeenBreaks.com, on Google through the keywords "abortion", "teen abortion" and "teen pregnancy." When a keyword search is done on abortion, bringing up over 10 million Web sites, TeenBreaks.com is outbidding the abortion clinics and pro-abortion groups for that all-important first place spot."

Heartlink is part of "Focus on the Family" - which, as many of you will know, was run until February 2009 by infamous evangelical leader James Dobson.

Now that we have established the general background, let's get back to "Heroic Media" again.

Who is Brian Follett?

He is, as noted in public records, one of the major financial backers of the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth". He is mentioned with having donated $ 40,000 to the "Swift Boaters", which places him at No. 19 in the individual "Donation High Score" of the Swift Boaters. However, other records indicate that his overall donations were actually higher and amounted to $ 47,500 in total.

Therefore, it seems that the past rears its ugly head.

After all, the Swift Boaters were not liked very much - even by some Republicans.

One Republican said in 2004:

“I deplore this kind of politics. I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable. As it is, none of these individuals served on the boat (Kerry) commanded. Many of his crew have testified to his courage under fire. I think John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam. I think George Bush served honorably in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War.”

This statement was made by:

John McCain - the man who just had Sarah Palin, "The Whore of Babble-On", campaign for him.

Sad times for America, sad times for Republicans.

Sarah Palin runs out of steam in Nevada, and hecklers experience the limits of freedom of speech - UPDATE! Letter from "heckler" Ethan Elder!

Sarah Palin had a busy day. In the morning, she campaigned in Arizona together with John McCain. For them, the event didn't go as planned. During her speech, Sarah Palin was heckled - twice. When the first heckling happened, her voice immediately changed to that of a mean schoolgirl with the high-pitched sound we know all too well:

The heckler, Ethan Elder from Arizona, was brutally removed from the hall. Here is a picture:

Sarah Palin's heckler in Arizona forcefully removed from the hall - March 27, 2010

UPDATE!

We have a new video showing the heckling and the removal of Ethan Elder - and this time, it's even more shocking! It becomes much clearer how aggressively the crowd behaved towards Ethan - mob rule! The video includes some annotations by a Palinbot. Watch (I recommend full screen!):

ANOTHER UPDATE!

A new video has emerged, which shows even better how violently Ethan Elder, who was walking to the exit already at this point, was grabbed by Palin's and McCain's supporters and then removed from the hall.

Ethan also told me in an email-message today that he is considering a lawsuit because of the violation of his rights. I would say, go for it, Ethan!

He also told me today that he and his friend Alex are very happy about the strong support coming from the blogsphere.

As it turns out, he was there together with a second young man called Alex who later heckled Sarah Palin during her speech again. Here is the video of the second heckler being wrestled to the ground, subdued, arrested and escorted away:

ABC15.com has more details:

"But just as Palin took the podium, hecklers began to disrupt the former Alaska governor.

Witnesses said one of the hecklers was pulled up by the hair by a McCain/Palin supporter.

As the man -- who said his name is Alex -- was taken out of the auditorium, he is seen in video being tackled by three men, one identified as a police officer in plain clothes, a man in a McCain T-shirt, and another man.

Witnesses say another protestor was also punched by someone in the crowd.

Ethan Elder was taken into custody by police, but was later released.

Police say no arrests were made and nobody is facing charges.

"I shouted my message. My intention was to speak my political opinion and leave peacefully," Elder said. "I was immediately assaulted by the crowd. They turned angry and belligerent."

Some protestors complained that the Palin/McCain supporters who attacked them were not taken into custody or charged by police.

Meantime, McCain supporters called some of the protestors rude and wondered why they would attend a rally for McCain if they don't agree with him.

Alex said the group of detractors went to the rally with the intent of disrupting Saturday's event."

On the first youtube video above which I posted in my "doublegrandmapalin" youtube account, Ethan Elder aka "azcarpetman" commented 3 hours ago:

"Let me just say that I was the who shouted "He sold us to the corporations in the bail out bill" I was physically assaulted and put into a choke hold by fans. Then i was led outside and cuffed. I was not charged with anything. My friend is in the other video being arrested as well. People need to wake up."

I believe that this comment is genuine. UPDATE: An internet search has confirmed that "azcarpetman" is indeed Ethan Elder, the first heckler! His friend Alex in the second video shouted "I hate Obama. I don't like Obama. I'm a libertarian!", therefore it's obvious that these protesters don't consider themselves to be liberals, but neither are they McCain supporters. It's rather telling that the hecklers were libertarians, as these people are sometimes regarded as the "real" teabaggers. Sarah Palin and John McCain however claimed in their speeches today that the teabaggers are part of the Republican party - and therefore they try to "suffocate" the teabaggers at the same time. The brutal treatment of these protesters is almost symbolic.

It doesn't matter for us whether these protesters are libertarians or Obama fans. Their treatment was despicable. Sarah Palin and her faithful Palinbots have no interest in freedom of speech. You have the right to hail Queen Sarah - if you don't agree with her, you could face a rough time. I was pretty shocked, as were some of our commenters on Palingates today, that the crowd in Arizona in the morning was in a "nazi like frenzy". Where is this supposed to lead? This looked like the competition "Who is the biggest demagogue in town".

In the afternoon, Sarah Palin spoke in Nevada, in Harry Reid's district, and she delivered what was one of the worst speeches of her career. It was clearly not her day, and she tried her best to spew as much vitriol at the "Obama/Pelosi/Reid gang" as she could. Her voice was a mess, her talking points were moronic, she was glued to her script, and I am pretty sure that Harry Reid had a good laugh:

+++

UPDATE:

On his facebook, Ethan Elder gives more details about what happened and about his opinions, - and he clearly is not publicity shy ;-) His facebook also confirms that he has libertarian views.

"Watch!!!!!! ALEX AND I ARRESTED AND ASSAULTED AT MCCAIN RALLY!!! WAKE UP!! WATCH MY INTERVIEW AND OTHER VID. IT WILL BE ON NEWS."

"This is me yelling at palin. I said "John Mccain sold us out to the corporations in the bail out bill" Then as i tried to leav, i was attacked by the attendees. They put me in a choke hold until unmarked cops came and cuffed me. Wake up people, watch the news for my interview."

"Alex and I protested and heckled mccain and palin. This is what happens to us. More to come. Watch the news. Wake up america, the movment is beggining"

This was the "public preparation" on facebook for the events today:

"Anyone want to crash john Mccain and Sarah Palins rally this saturday at Dobson High. The more the better. Lets give this neo-con some quality advice. I cant wait to see him stammer in frustration in front of the whole audience lmfao!!! I'm serious though so dont tell me you will come if you wont."

"you want to join anthony? We are up to nine people so far. At staggared intervals we could interrupt his entire speech. Mccain is a self-righteos lying turncoat son of a bitch. Palin is his ignorant celebrity gimp for arousing bored christian mothers"

"crash them! lol. it would be hard on your lonesome. Im talking to my frineds parents today who are hardcore libeterians that might come to. they support either way."

UPDATE 2:

A few hours ago, I contacted "azcarpetman" Ethan Elder over youtube. At this point I was still asking for a confirmation of his identity, which is now not in doubt any more.

I am happy to say that Ethan Elder just responded to me, and the following is what he wrote (unedited). Thanks a lot, Ethan! Here is his message:

"Hi Patrick

Please excuse the grammatical and syntax errors as I have been responding to people all day. I guess I'll start with introductions. I am Ethan Elder, a freshman at ASU majoring in Industrial Engineering. As far as proof goes, you are free to look at my facebook page. Also, abc15.com covered the event with a less slanted angle and included my name. My friend and I do not support either the Democrats or the Republicans. If you could, please make it clear that I am in no way a Obama Supporter.

I attended the rally to voice my opinion peacefully. I feel that John Mccain represents a neoconservtive movement that has infiltrated the republican party and tainted conservative principles. The exact words I yelled out was : "He( mccain) sold us to the corporations in the bail out bill". I yelled several more times in response to Palins dismissal and then attempted to leave. I was then attacked by the nearby supporters arround me. I was pulled, shoved and punched in multiple directions and then a man came up from behind and put me in a headlock. I nearly past out, but wasnt concerned about that (to tell you the truth I was glad that they exposed their immaturity and irrationality).

I assaulted no one, and used no explicit language inside the building. One of the men who came up and grabbed me was an unmarked cop ( the man without a hat) and led me out. I was then thrown to the ground and arrested in the same manner as my friend. I was confused because since the cops failed to identify themselves till later, I had no idea who they were. Again, only one unmarked cop grabbed me from inside. The rest were Angy protesters.

I could of pressed charges for assault but chose not to. After i left and the speech continued, my friend yelled out as well after Palin remarked on the deficit. he said from something along the lines of "The war on terror is whats putting us in debt". He was then also attacked by the crowd and thrown outside. My local nbc news channel has an exccellent angle of the physical assaults he recieved inside from the attendees. We also have a video from the other end of the bleachers of him we have yet to compile and post. We were detained there, then we were both released without any charges. As for my motivations? Mccain is a neocon. Palin is as well. They do not represent conservative values. They preach war mongering and fallacious misconstrued information about there involvement with the financial collapse. This is just a summary, I would be willing to provide a more adequate account concering my motivations however if you have any specific questions."

+++

UPDATE 3:

Want to see some REAL hecklers? Just take a look at the teabaggers, Sarah Palin's crowd. They love to exercise their right of free speech, love to scream at members of Congress, harrass them and to spit on them. Spit on them? Well, Fox News didn't believe it, and Tea Party groups offered a $ 15k reward for proof of the incident!

It looks like they will have to cough up the money - Huffington Post now released the video of the incident:

The teabaggers are a mob, nothing else - free speech only applies to them. See what happens if somebody shows dissent - they DO NOT appreciate it at all:

+++

UPDATE 4:

I just spotted something. On the video with the spitting incident I just posted above, from about 2:20 onwards, you can clearly see a flag in the background which is a variation of the original nazi swastika flag. These type of flags are very popular amongst neo nazis so that they don't have to display the real swastika - it's a code:

This flag or a variant which is very, very close has actually been used at a violent incident in Los Angeles before, as we learn from this educational website about flags.

Here is a comparison between the already know nazi-symbol (as explained on this website) and the flag that was shown at the teabaggers rally in Washington (many thanks to EyeOnYou!):

nazi-flags comparison

+++

EDIT:

I was forced to make an addition to "update 4" because I have seen in comments which were left on the "Congressman spitting" youtube video and also on blogs that some people persistently claim that the flag in the background is not a nazi flag, but the state flag of Tennessee!

Well, here is the state flag of Tennessee - does it look ANYTHING like that? Do you people need new glasses or what? Look:

Tennessee state flag 1

Tennessee state flag 2

Anybody who still claims that the flag in the background is the state flag of Tennessee has to be either blind or ignorant...

(end of edit)

+++

Why am I not surprised?

But Sean Hannity would probably say now: "What? This good American just doesn't discriminate against the color red and was creative!"

Sarah Palin, her "friends", her views, daughters and babies... (plus a couple of updates)

Sarah Palin will join the following politicians' campaigns for re-election:

John McCain - Senate, Arizona

Michele Bachmann - Congress, Minnesotta

Rick Perry - Governor, Texas

John McCain must have forgotten what happened last time he campaigned with Sarah Palin. As for the other two, who knows? Bush Sr. is endorsing Hutchison in Texas, it could get quite interesting... Watching Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin together could prove to be much too painful an experience.

Sarah Palin's new truck driving friend seems to be even less classy than Granny Palin when it comes to his family. Scott Brown happily announced that his daughters are available.

Any bidders?

If you want to see more flesh from members of Scott Brown's family, you have to visit Huffington Post who have discovered that Brown's wife had a "raunchy part" in what has to be the most awful video of the 1980s: "The girl with the curious hands" (played by his wife...).

Screenshots (more on Huffington Post):

It's difficult to understand Sarah Palin's enthusiasm for Scott Brown. After all, he was involved in "porn" and was proud of it.

He's also moderately pro-choice:
Abortion

While this decision should ultimately be made by the woman in consultation with her doctor, I believe we need to reduce the number of abortions in America. I believe government has the responsibility to regulate in this area and I support parental consent and notification requirements and I oppose partial birth abortion. I also believe there are people of good will on both sides of the issue and we ought to work together to support and promote adoption as an alternative to abortion.
Sarah Palin's views regarding abortion are much more extreme...

These are snippets from her latest Facebook note:

In the years following Roe, we were told that the issue was no longer open for debate and that we should get over it and move on. But we couldn’t get over the stirrings of our conscience or move on from an issue that cuts to the heart of who we are as a nation.

The pro-life movement is pro-women, and it empowers women with the message that we are strong enough and smart enough to be able to pursue education, vocations and avocations while giving life to a child.

Though I can’t be in Washington tomorrow, my heart is with the marchers. Those of us who can’t be there can still join them online at the Virtual March for Life. Please follow the link and join the tens of thousands of your fellow Americans who are already marching online. Together we can bear witness to the beauty and blessings of the culture of life.

This is what the Virtual March for Life is all about:

Hundreds of thousands of Americans are expected to attend tomorrow's National March for Life, which takes place annually on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision. Americans United for Life Action, in an effort to bolster the real March for Life, launched the first-ever Virtual March for Life www.virtualmarchforlife.com earlier this week.

Is Sarah Palin's mental instability contagious?

Now that we have recovered from the hilarious news that Sarah Palin is joining Fox News as an expert in many fields, let's go back to more important matters. Diversion tactics will not work, Sarah.

We were rudely interrupted when we were discussing the revelations about the 2008 campaign in the book "Game Change".

Our friend Floyd M. Orr drew our attention to a new trick devised by the palinbots to protect their idol, by trying to prevent people from purchasing and reading "Game Change".

"...the Palinbots have attacked this book in a new way, all saying that it deserves one star simply because it has not already been released in the Kindle format at Amazon, or the Nook/e-book format at B&N. This is a scam to load the book's pages at both sites with one-star reviews. Most people do not realize this yet. As you know, I am a small-time author who plays in this sandbox all the time, so I understand the many processes involved. The truth is that this scam has no relationship to Nooks or Kindles whatsoever. It's just more Palinbot nasty business."

We gathered some examples from the Amazon site:

"As soon as I heard about this book I knew I wanted to read it. I was surprised that it was not available to pre-order on the Kindle but I assumed it would become available when the book was released. It seems that the publisher does not understand that as much as I want to read this book, I only read books on my Kindle."

"The Kindle Edition of this book has not yet been released, and according to the Harper Collins website, will not be released until FEBRUARY 23rd. Hence, I can only assume it is terrible. Yes, I AM a childish political nerd with a kindle. And yes, I will buy this book if it comes out on kindle. Until then, I'm drinking hella haterade."

"I would love to read this book, but I have no interest in purchasing a hard copy. If Harper waits too long, Kindle users like myself will forget about this book and move on."

"I also jumped right on Amazon to order this book, but since no Kindle version is available, I'm not purchasing anything. I'll just borrow a hardback copy from a friend if I want to read this one."

Serious readers retaliated:

"I cannot believe that people are giving this serious book bad reviews just because they cannot yet read it on their Christmas presents. Says a lot more about the reviewer than the reviewed."

"How is it possible that Amazon records one star ratings that are solely a result of a no Kindle protest? I'm glad I read all the reviews, since my first impression from the 3-star composite was a very average book. It's the BOOK reviews, folks."

"People should read more real books anyways.

Now before you start complaining that this isn't really a review, I urge you to check out some of the other reviews here for GAME CHANGE.

Out of the 11 reviews thus far, 4 do not discuss the book at all and simply complain that there is no Kindle version.

All gave the book 1 star, apparently because there is no Kindle edition.

Make any sense to you?

No, me neither.

Something smell a bit fishy, perhaps?

Yup. You bet.

So all I'm saying is what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

You guys give the book 1 star for no Kindle, and I give it 5 stars for no Kindle.

Sound fair?"

There were many more reviews when I visited Amazon, both exploiting the Kindle angle and protesting about these non-reviews.

Time acknowledges that Sarah Palin's supporters have had some success in keeping her safe from criticism and scrutiny.

"Intimidated by the rabidness of her supporters, believing that they can't be swayed by facts and worried about getting crosswise with the most highly energized part of the Republican base, McCainworld has shied away from fighting for the soul of the party, instead allowing her version of reality to go largely unchallenged -- and her rise to continue unchecked."

But they also see that this code of silence has been broken with the publication of "Game Change".

"The question, however, is what will happen now that the omerta has been broken. So far Palin has not responded (beyond a blanket nondenial denial) to the facts about her in "Game Change" or the views offered on 60 Minutes by Schmidt."

Sarah Palin referred people back to "Going Rogue" for the "true" version of what happened during the campaign.

John McCain, on the other hand, became aggressive when Matt Lauer asked him how he felt about the "Game Change" disclosures. Burying his head in the sand and trying to change the subject while repeating "I'm proud of Sarah Palin, I'm proud of the campaign, I'm proud of everybody," refusing to take any responsibility for any of the campaign shortcomings, make us seriously question his judgement, character and personality.

Questions we have to ask - Why are her fans so afraid? What revelations could prove so devastating to Sarah Palin's image that they have to resort to every dirty trick in the book?

The palinbots have been rigging every online poll to make Sarah Palin come across as an immensely popular person who would win the presidency by a landslide in 2012. They use multiple IDs, different ISPs, they do anything to make her look good. The pro-Palin sites don't allow any dissent whatsoever, even from people in their own ranks. Now they're using more subtle tactics, as in the case of the book ratings on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

They have defended Sarah Palin's record and validated her many lies quite happily, they accepted "Going Rogue" as gospel truth and will not fact check anything. But the game has changed...

Sarah Palin's ignorance is well documented, so there's nothing very damaging in "Game Change" relating to that.

Mental instability is something new to Sarah Palin cult followers.

We have been discussing Sarah Palin's mental health for months and they have never reacted to any of our statements. We're just bloggers, after all. But now they heard it from campaign insiders. It's there, in black and white, in a well researched book they're refusing to purchase and hoping to bring the ratings down to prevent others from buying and reading it.

They must be very frightened to learn certain things.

"One minute, Palin would be her perky self; the next she would fall into a strange blue funk," the authors write.

The morning of her ill-fated CBS interview with Katie Couric, Palin - "her eyes glassy and dead" - was unresponsive to attempts to prep her as she was being made up.

"As they were about to set off to meet Couric, Palin announced 'I hate this makeup' - smearing it off her face, messing up her hair, complaining she looked fat," the book relates.

Palin went into a tailspin. She stopped eating or sleeping, and drank only a half a can of diet soda a day, recounts the book written by John Heilemann of New York magazine and Mark Halperin of Time magazine.

"When her aides tried to quiz her she would routinely shut down - chin on her chest, arms folded, eyes cast to the floor, speechless and motionless, lost in what those around her described as a kind of catatonic stupor."

When the campaign took her to Arizona to prep for the veep debate, McCain's staff made sure a doctor friend was on hand "to observe her," the book says.

The red flag went up on July 3, 2009.

We have long speculated about the reasons for Sarah Palin's erratic behaviour. Does she have a personality disorder? Is she bi-polar? Does she abuse prescription and non-prescription drugs?

Here we see a very perky Sarah Palin and her delirious fans.

Both Sarah and her cult followers were on a high during the book tour.

Now the palinbots are in a tailspin themselves. They always claim that she's just like them.

Yes, they're ignorant, very excitable and several teabags short of a rally.

Sarah Palin's popularity - The Myth

When John McCain launched Sarah Palin on the national stage, much was said about her popularity ratings.

How does one measure popularity in a state so huge and so sparsely populated as Alaska?

Our good friend Barb Dwyer gave us a good first-hand account regarding the peculiarities of the electorate in Alaska:

There's a few things to consider here. It's true she did bluff her way into office in a way, it was more of I won't say anything other than I'm Republican and I'm NOT Frank Murkowski. She dodged interviews, dodged debates, dodged just about anything where she would have to speak. She was in awe of her opponents knowledge but admitted to Andrew Halcro that she thought that when it came to your average voter, knowledge of facts and figures just doesn't matter. In Alaska more than anywhere else this is probably true. People just don't pay attention as a whole for a wide variety of reasons. Distrust of Government in general, really bad TV coverage, even worse newpapers and the fact that many people watch or read neither. This is a state that continues to try and elect Ted Stevens and Don Young no matter how much criminal activity they may be involved with. We also have, I believe, 11 other legislators currently sitting in Federal prisons with more on the way. Most I'm sure could be re-elected when they are released. It really is that pathetic. So another crook running for a high position is business as usual up here.

When a person says they are pregnant, people believe them. There's no reason really to question someone and especially when your Governor tells you this. People just thought, well that's weird and went about their business. I watch our horrible new broadcasts all the time and I would bet that over the period she said she was pregnant, I saw her on TV maybe 3 times. She always sends her spokesmen and department heads to do her talking for her. People would question that aspect and wonder why she couldn't speak for herself but that's how she did it. She was always very elusive, hell the legislature couldn't even find her half the time. There were bumper stickers all over Juneau saying "Sarah the jobs in Juneau" because she was always hiding out eating crunch wraps.

The only reason her ratings were so high is because she essentially bribed her constituents with the energy rebate checks. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. She was widely disliked after announcing AGIA and that would not have looked good for her VP nod. So being the socialist that she is, she sent everyone in the state a check for $1,200 and the people danced with glee. Then they took that poll that everyone refers to right after everyone got home from purchasing their new plasma TV and they all loved the Governor who gave them free money. She was running a con game and a shell game all at the same time, knowing the low information voters of this state would stay oblivious to most, if not all of what was going on. She had the ADN in her back pocket (they had a shrine to her online) and that's really all she needed to pull off all of her shenanigans.

I walked around with a shirt I made the day after she quit, that said "Dude where's my Governor" inside an outline of Alaska that was blue and gold, the colors of our flag. For a full 2 months I had people who live here asking me what that was about. They had NO idea the woman had quit. That just goes to show how little people pay attention to what's going on in politics here.

The distances also play into the equation. I remember when MSNBC went out to Little Diomede to show the only place in Alaska you can see an island that belongs to Russia. They asked the Mayor if Sarah had ever been there and he replied that she hadn't. His next question was why was this news crew way out in Little Diomede. They had to inform him that SP had been given the VP nod. The Mayor of Little Diomede had no idea she had been tapped for that position. News travels slow up here if it gets anywhere at all. It's just the reality of this state. Could she have pulled this off anywhere else? I seriously doubt it.

Alaska has a tiny population. According to the 2008 census, there are 686,293 people spread over 586,412 square miles, or 1.17 inhabitants per square mile.

Sarah Palin received 48.33% of the vote in the election for governor, 114,697 votes. That's based on the number of people who voted, but it represents only 22% of the total number of people entitled to vote.

Wasilla had 5,469 inhabitants in 2000. Sarah Palin was elected mayor in 1996 and re-elected in 1999. Based on the number of inhabitants above, of the people elligible to vote, only 20% voted in 1996 and 22% in 1999.

Let's have a look at the actual figures on all three occasions.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Mike Huckabee said Sarah Palin had more votes in the mayoral poll than Joe Biden had in the primaries. Biden had 63,157 votes, which is a bit higher than 909...

It doesn't seem too difficult to reach a high percentage of the votes in a place like Alaska. People are scattered all over the place, in very isolated, remote areas. Of the 506,485 people elligible to vote, only 47% actually voted in 2006 (the figures may be slightly out, as they're based on a 2008 census estimate).

The same would hold true for popularity ratings. The samples would not reflect the state as a whole. A bribe of $1,200 surely helped improve things a bit.

The figures we've seen above hardly indicate overwhelming popularity or unbridled enthusiasm for Sarah Palin.

John McCain helped perpetuate the myth when he announced Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Although they lost the election, the damage was done. McCain unleashed this nightmare that is Sarah Palin, she went rogue and the rest is history.

Her so-called popularity in her own state was seriously damaged and her ratings plummeted after November 2008, culminating in her resignation from the office of governor in July 2009.

Granny Grifter has replaced the supporters she had in Alaska with shiny new $upporters from the Lower 48. That could have been one of her motives for quitting... a fresh supply of $upporter$!
